Project by Valerie Bourdon (video editing), Ali Egseem (website/app development) andĀ
Jennifer Sevan (content and graphic design).
Montreal Explained aims to shed light on the unique unmarked or unexplained architecture, public art, and public spaces throughout the city of Montreal. While geared towards local Montrealers who may pass by certain spaces or objects with curiosity everyday, this project helped touristsĀ to learn more about the city.
The app borrows the functions and interactions familiar to popular media apps such as Instagram and Pinterest. It has a very minimalistic design as to not overpower the content. The main page consists of a map with the user's location. Users can browse areas of Montreal and view existing entries. Upon coming across something strange or fascinating that has not been documented, the user takes a snapshot of the anomaly in question, and uploads it with a geotag and caption. Other users have the option to comment with an explanation of the entry, which can be upvoted to make sure the best answer is displayed first, or downvoted if inappropriate. If the entry already exists, the user can click on the location to view the entry and its comments.
